How To Keep Up With High-Performance Under Slow Market Conditions?
The markets have been trading slowly and for many, this is a trigger to mistakes such as overtrading.
The main skills to thrive under these conditions:
- Acceptance
- Adaptation
- Preservation
Here are 5 keys to make sure you achieve these skills and adapt as fast as you can:
1. Lower Expectations
Slow markets aren't gonna provide you with the same results as a faster market. You need to adjust your expectations and accept the reality.
Once you lower your ego's voice, is that you can hear the voice of the market and adapt your performance.
2. Increase Confidence
It's easy to lose confidence in slow markets.
Trying to force patience and discipline is worthless. The big provider of these skills is confidence:
1) In your system
2) In your ability to perform
Review past trades, and recall past setbacks you overcame
3. Adjust Strategy
- Be highly selective with entries
- Play a more conservative approach to managing risk
- Adjust your trade management and exits to what the market is willing to provide - smaller RR
- Don't be greedy! Partial profits are key, even in slow markets.
4. Adjust Routine
With slower markets, the tendency is to increase trading hours to compensate for the lack of opportunities available.
But this is just a coping strategy to mask the real problem - your lack of acceptance of the current market.
5. Take It As an Opportunity
Slow markets might not offer you a lot of opportunities to trade but they are a great opportunity to extend your knowledge.
Take advantage of the downtime to study different markets, styles, and approaches...
Remember, slow markets are just a temporary phase in the grand scheme of things.
Adaptation is at the heart of survival, the fastest you do it, the better you'll perform.
This Sunday, I'll talk more about dealing with slow markets, adapting fast, and keeping up with high performance under these conditions.
