From all the covers designs I’ve seen since the video dropped, there are 3 problems identified.
1. Use of colour
Most of y’all don’t know how to match colors together. You’ll put blue text on a green background or purple text on a red background which is wrong.
Any colour combination that will make you strain your eyes to read or see properly is not good for your designs.
Let the two colour come out clear like black on white or yellow on black or white on green, or dark blue on yellow, just put dark on light and light on dark colors.
Think about it. If you are looking for a white cloth in a dark room will it be easy to find?
2. Proportion
Most of you don’t understand what it means to align your texts and images properly. You think it’s just dump image on design interface and add text to it, then download…
You must understand that there’s something called proportion and it should be effective in your designs.
This is why Canva has a ruler 📏 for ever element on your design. As you drag elements or images or shapes to a section of your design, there’s a ruler to direct you…
This ruler displays on every design so that you’ll know when the items are properly aligned with the section and entire design.
3. Spacing
Spacing is the gap between two texts. We have text slacking which is the spacing between words or alphabets like A-B-D—-G B Z…or…
Like spacing which is the gap between a text at the top and text at the bottom like:
The boy is good
The girl is better
The man is coming
The kids are crying
This is an example of line spacing. Now imaging if you have very big space between your upper and lower texts…
It won’t make sense & your cover won’t come out good. Always close the extra unwanted spacing between your designs.
I’ll address these 3 points in the part 2 of the book cover design and image manipulation video.
