Addictions can be very toxic.
Here are 9 addictions you MUST avoid to become successful:
1. Comparison
Comparison will zap the joy out of your life if you let it.
Solution:
Add a simple gratitude practice to your daily routine.
2. Comfort
The comfort zone is where dreams die.
Solution:
Use the 85% rule. Learning is optimized when we get things right 85% of the time.
3. Quitting
The only way to guarantuee failure is to quit.
Solution:
Commit to something and give your friend $100. If you quit, they can keep the money.
4. Your phone
Phone addictions can be very dangerous.
Solution:
Turn off your phone 1 hour before bed and turn it on again 1 hour after you woke up.
5. Waiting for perfect conditions to start
The timing will never be perfect.
Solution:
Use the 70% rule of Jeff Bezos: take action when you have 70% of the information you wish you had.
6. Complaining
Complaining trains your brain to seek out the negative side of everything.
Solution:
Wear a rubber band on your wrist for a week. Every time you complain, snap it.
7. Distraction
Sometimes you just need to sit and think. This allows you to focus on what matters.
Solution:
Schedule two 15-minute blocks each day to do nothing. No inputs. No distraction.
8. Multitasking
Multitasking doesn't work. Deep work is the way to go.
Solution:
Commit full focus to whatever you're doing.
9. Procrastination
Don't lose your life to procrastination.
Solution:
Use a 5-minute rule. If you're procrastinating on something, just work on it for 5 minutes.
The hardest part of a task is getting over the hump of starting.
