Too many people do not realise how really good they are in specific features or elements in corporate & private life. Mistakenly they just settle in for mediocrity and the wrong place
Here is an amazing true story, you do not want to miss out - I promise!
- Thread -
When I started university in 1992 I was luck enough to find a few decent friends.
It clicked immediately and we had just a great time together.
We learned together, we partied together, we played football together, we just hung out together.
A few of them were exceptionally intellectual and they sparked many interesting and fruitful conversations and discussions.
I discovered many new topics, thoughts, views and habits.
My learning curve was massive and I am unbelievably thankful to this day.
One of them was 2.5 years older than the rest of us and he was already a senior student.
I realised back then that he was massively into computers, coding, hardware, software, hence into all kinds of IT-related stuff.
It all came naturally to him without any kind of efforts.
When he graduated he left the university and moved to a big city to find a job.
We had a huge farewell party and we all just enjoyed ourselves.
We were all happy for him but also sad as he was leaving our tribe.
After 6 months I went to see im and check on him.
He was in a terrible state of mind. He was frustrated, depressive, procrastinating, full of anxiety and down on his knees.
He completely lost his mojo.
What happened?
He told me that he was applying for more than 100 jobs and he got not one single interview.
I asked him about the jobs that he was applying for. To my surprise he said all of them were "marketing" related.
Why "marketing"?
What's his edge in "marketing?
What is he doing?
I told him that he is the one and only guy I know who is The REAL IT Expert and the IT world is keen to finding him.
He was puzzled and irritated.
He did not believe that others could't do what he was doing in IT related stuff.
He thought he is just a plain vanilla dude!
I managed to convince him, to motivate him and to redirect him.
When I left his place I was so glad to cheer him up a bit and show him his true colours.
I was convinced he is a TOP IT expert!
A week later he called me about his several interviews for those IT related jobs he applied for.
For every single application he was invited for an interview.
Hence, he realised by the reactions of these IT companies about his talents, knowledge, wisdom and massive edge.
10 years later he was the Head of EMEA of a 50 billion market cap stock-listed company. 2 years later he sold his shares and left the company.
After traveling the world for a few months he found a company and sold it 2 years later for a massive amount of money
After 1 year he found another company and sold it 2 years later for even a bigger amount of money.
Mean while he created roughly 10 apps and sold them for top Dollars.
Fast forward he is happily married and feels blessed with 3 amazing kids. He is just enjoying himself and his family.
Every time we meet or call he keeps saying:
"You opened my eyes and showed me the way. I cannot thank you enough my dear old friend!"
What's the moral of the story?
What ever comes naturally to you without any kind of hustle or efforts is your true calling. You are by miles ahead of your peers and the world desperately needs you!
Just go for it - all in!
