THREAD: Simple, easy to follow steps to beat a porn habit
This will work for anyone & get you results quick
Who is this thread for?
- You suffer from a porn addiction
- You have tried to quit repeatedly but failed
- You don't know how to beat your addiction
- You relapse often
- You want genuine help and not feel good nonsense
If this is you, read to the very end.
Your inability to fight the porn demon is because you are in the throws of a process addiction
2 types of addictions
- Substance addictions
- Process / behavioral addictions
Both function in the same way.
Both act on your mid brain
How does it work?
All addictions are dopamine addictions.
The indulgence spikes your dopamine to an unnatural amount and over stimulates your mid brain
AND, when you come down, your natural dopamine levels drop down to much below normal
This is when cravings start
Its an infinite loop
Now this thread is not about the science.. This thread is purely for solutions.
Let's begin.
First, understand this - the cravings you feel are not your libido acting up, it is a dopamine craving
There is a trigger - craving - indulgence loop that you're trapped in
Your first task is to sit down shut out all distractions and do an exercise,
What are the triggers that set you off?
From my experience working with clients, they may be one or more of these -
1) Stress / emotional discomfort
2) Time of day
3) Location
4) Exposure to content
5) Dopamine cravings from low D2 receptors
6) Genuine sexual desire but no outlet
7) Trying stuff that doesn't work - edging etc
8) People (Sexual conversations, sexting etc)
10) Thoughts
Dopamine cravings make you want to watch porn.
Genuine libido will make you want sex and intimacy
Learn to identify what is happening with you
Okay, now you have your triggers listed out.. what now?
Next, you stop being reactive like a brain dead zombie and take the bull by the horns.
There are 2 things you can do when you get hit with cravings,
1) Identify what triggered it and put into place the necessary systems to handle it
2) Give into your cravings - on your terms
Let me explain,
Out of the listed 10 common triggers - 75% of them can be completely cut off from your life.
You know it, you just don't make the effort to actually do it
Do it now or you never will. Cut out all those triggers.
Next, of your triggers the ones that remain now, we will design a working system to handle each.
IF xyz happens.. THEN, I will do this.
You cannot afford to be passive and go with the flow - THIS WILL MAKE YOU RELAPSE.
Simple things you can do for each trigger....
Does stress / emotions set you off? Learn bellows breathing & meditate
Do you watch porn at day / night? Create a structure & routine to your day
Location? Move your furniture around
Thoughts?
Channel them, meditate, deep work, don't have idle time or stay indoors all day
Boredom? Pick up a new hobby
Don't stay indoors, get some sun, hang out or make friends
HIT THE GYM EVERY DAY
Train 5 days but go there everyday to not have an empty time block
What about your libido?
Genuine sexual desire?
2 things you can do for real
1) Find a partner (obvious)
2) Channel this energy into other tasks
How do you do this?
Practice the root lock technique. It is an advanced form of kegels.
Will help you draw energy from you lower energy points & channel it flow upwards
Away from the genital area
This is not to eliminate desire / libido but just to better manage it
You can find this on youtube - look for root lock or mula bandha.
One more thing you can do for stress - simple tension release exercises (somatic therapy) or google progressive muscle relaxation
Tension in the body spikes cortisol which has similar chemical response - leads to low D2 receptors and creates cravings
Release this tension
Now you have your triggers identified and have systems planned out for each of them.
Now its time for some changes.
This is what will happen..
When you begin to abstain, your brain will want its surge of dopamine.
We will give into it, but on our terms
How?
Lifestyle changes.
Follow a training regimen in the gym
Get proper sleep & sunlight
Eat right (Fasting is good for neuroplasticity)
Limit sugar, junk, processed food
Deep work 4 hours atleast (start with 30 min sessions)
Find a new hobby and get better at it
Pray
All the self help guru advice..
Oh also, WALK A LOT
WHY?
Because every task on this list is a controlled dopamine injection
You are slowly healing your reward pathway & allowing neuro - adaptation to occur
Now there's one item on the triggers list I left out..
Low dopamine D2 receptors
WHat about this?
Do everything mentioned on this thread for 90 days
Abstain + redirect
This will slowly begin to fade away old neural pathways, induce neuroplastic change and then raise your D2 receptors gradually.
Will I be fully cured in 90 days?
Yes & no.
You will beat your porn habit, you will rewire your bran to a large extent
However..
Addiction pathways never fully go away, they just become less active
But following this is your best strategy to ensure you are well on your way to healing and recovery
