How to learn anything.
The Feynman Technique:
(a visual thread)
The Feynman Technique is a learning method that prioritizes simplicity to build depth of understanding.
Feynman’s true genius was his ability to convey complex ideas in simple, elegant ways.
Feynman observed that complexity and jargon are often used to mask a lack of deep understanding.
The Feynman Technique involves four key steps:
1. Set the Stage
2. ELI5
3. Assess & Study
4. Organize & Review
1. Set the Stage: Write down everything you know about the topic.
2. ELI5: Try to explain the topic to someone without a base understanding of it.
3. Assess & Study: Study to fill in the knowledge gaps exposed by the prior step.
4. Organize, Convey, & Review: Organize your knowledge into a clear narrative, convey it to a few people, and iterate on your study.
The Feynman Technique is a powerful framework for learning anything.
Train yourself to abstract complexity and convey ideas in simple, digestible ways.
Use the Feynman Technique: Find beauty in simplicity.

I’m going to be experimenting with more visuals on Twitter to bring some of the ideas to life.

The Feynman Technique pushes you to teach as a way to learn.
In the 1960s, the National Training Laboratories Institute developed a pyramid model to represent the retention rate of information from various activities.
Takeaways:
• Lecture/reading not enough
• Teaching most powerful learning
The generalized way that I apply the approach:
• Learn something new.
• Try to teach it to a friend/family member who doesn’t know anything about the topic.
• Log the questions they ask that I don’t know the answers to (or where I stumbled).
• Study more to fill in.
Teaching is a real life hack for learning.
When you're trying to learn something new, quickly attempt to teach it to a friend or family member.
See what questions they ask and how those questions expose the gaps in your knowledge.
Study more to fill in those gaps.
It works.
