ChatGPT generates text that's often generic and unimpressive.
But you can make it write like an accomplished scholar.
Here's how to do it in four easy steps:
[This thread uses ChatGPT 3.5, which is totally free to use.]
Step 1: Open ChatGPT and prompt it to act as your research assistant
Also, specify context: you'll give ChatGPT ten paragraphs. It will just keep them in mind and do nothing but to say "Next paragraph please."
Complete prompt in ALT text.
Step 2: Select a journal article or a book chapter you really like.
I'm using one of my own articles.
Take ten paragraphs of this article/chapter and run them through ChatGPT one by one.
Specify the paragraph number and put the text in double quotes.
Step 3: Choose a name for the style.
Since I have used my own article, I am going with "the Bilal style."
Step 4: Ask ChatGPT a question and ask it to answer in [style name].
I asked it to explain what close reading was in the Bilal style.
ChatGPT has given me such an amazing paragraph I wish I had written in myself.

A couple of use cases:
For teaching:
Train ChatGPT to imitate your writing style and ask it to help you prepare lecture notes.
Example: I asked ChatGPT to give me a heading for every sentence in the paragraph. I can use these headings to start a class discussion.
Getting unstuck:
If you are someone (like me) who often gets stuck in the middle of a sentence, you can use ChatGPT to get unstuck.
Take an unfinished sentence and ask ChtGPT to complete it for you.
It won't give you any groundbreaking insights, but it will get you unstuck.
