What if I could show you a matrix..
Where I take three businesses and show you how EACH one could pick ONE feature…
And beat the other two with that one single feature?
And how the other two can do the same to beat the first one?
>>>A CopyThinking Thread 🧵<<<
I get one question a lot. A LOT. And that question is…
“How do you position a business in a highly saturated space to win?”
Well I’m gonna do you one better.
I’ll show you three examples in the same market. Where each can beat the others…
With a little thinking.
Ready?
I live in Spain now. And I was looking for a Coworking space.
There are literally 18 of them within a walking distance from each other.
How do I pick?
Well…
I couldn’t pick. Because NONE of them used ANY positioning to try and get me.
They all did the same thing:
• Show a beautiful image of the space
• Give you basic features
• And tell you how friendly the staff is.
God dammit. All of them. The same exact pitch with a bit of difference in pricing.
As if…
They copied from each other?
Yeah. They did 🤦‍♂️
Anyway…
I visited three that were considered the best (by me LOL).
The first one has 24/7 access. While a lot of the others are only open until 18:00.
How’s that for positioning?
Where’s that in their ads or website?!
Lead with that and you automatically beat the others.
Then…
The second space:
Has 5 conference room that you can book at any time. With no additional charge.
Where’s that in their ads?!
“Need to have a ton of calls but don’t wanna pay for a private office?”.
It’s easy. But they’re not doing it. Bleh.
The third one?
They have offices for as little as 312€/mo.
AND their private office has its’ own AC.
“Too hot in a Cowork space? Regulate your own temperature in a private office for a price others charge for an open space spot”.
EASY.
See…
This is the beauty of positioning. And also the biggest fear of most “marketers”.
You can target SPECIFIC people with specific problems.
… Positioning yourself as the ONLY viable solution to THAT ONE person.
Ridiculously easy. My god.
So one question remains:
How do you come up with this kinda positioning?
See…
This is why knowing your competition is so important.
And that’s also why knowing the product you’re marketing is equally important.
Just one simple feature that others DON’T have can turn into one of two:
1. An advantage.
2. A disadvantage.
It all depends on the framing.
And here’s the kicker:
Those businesses would not REALLY be competing with each other.
Think about it. There are hundreds of people working from home just because of one simple reason:
They can’t find something that’s a good fit for them.
So each business wouldn’t even be taking a bite off of the other businesses revenue (for the most part).
Marketers who can think can make EVERYONE WIN.
Yeah. You could even market all 3 and they’d work synergistically. So…
It’s my wish for you that you start thinking.
Taking a look at competitors and deeply understanding the product you’re marketing.
One feature could carry the whole business on its’ back.
And this…
