One key aspect of a successful MVP is a deep understanding of your target market.
You're building a product for them, after all. If you don't understand them, how will you create something they need or want?
Here's how I approach this:
1/ Start with market research.
Dive into existing data, reports, studies, and analytics. Look for trends, behaviors, preferences, and needs.
The more you know about your market, the better you can serve them.
2/ Identify your ideal customer.
This is a semi-fictional representation of your best potential customer. Describe them in detail – demographics, habits, interests, problems, goals, etc.
This is your customer persona.
3/ Identify where they hang out: online and offline.
Which social media platforms do they use?
What other brands do they interact with?
Where do they get their information?
4/ Understand your competition.
Who else is serving your target market, and how are they doing it?
Learn from their successes and mistakes.
5/ Use all of this information to position your product in the market.
How can you differentiate yourself?
What unique value can you offer?
6/ Conduct surveys, interviews, and user tests to validate your assumptions.
Don’t just rely on second-hand data, get insights directly from your potential users.
Developing a deep understanding of your target market is a process that pays off for a more effective, well-received MVP.
Remember, you're not building this product for yourself.
You're building it for them.
