He took one tactic from a successful writer and turned it into
1.5 million followers.
And he did it in just 36 months.
Here is the story of Sahil Bloom's explosive growth:
1. Create Content Loops
Sahil took a page from @benthompson's playbook of building a full content ecosystem.
Here's how he does it:
First, he creates a pillar piece of content.
Let's use his thread on the Feynman technique as an example.
@benthompson Then he creates listicle posts like these:
• 10 ways to accelerate your career
• 20 lifelong learning habits
• 10 favorite threads from the last year
Each of these links back to that main Feynman post, but also includes links to other pillar content.
At the same time:
@benthompson Then he links relevant content together.
This doesn't only work with his pillar posts.
Any thread he includes will have a call to action to go read another related post.
This might seem simple, but it's extremely powerful for a few reasons:
@benthompson • He's keeping people on the platform. Algorithms love that.
• He's building authority in the reader's mind.
• If you read enough of his content, you'll likely follow and/or subscribe to the newsletter for more.
But this next tactic compounds his growth even more:
@benthompson 2. The 100k Club
Sahil calls community the "X Factor" of growth on Twitter.
He was in a text group with 5-6 others trying to hit 100k followers.
They shared ideas, lessons, and engaged with each other's content.
👉 Spoiler alert: they all hit the 100k mark
@benthompson 3. Hustle for Distribution
Once he created the main content is when the real work began.
At first, he commented under 40-50 other posts sharing his thread.
Luckily, Chamath (300k followers at the time) ended up retweeting it.
But @SahilBloom knew he had to work smarter:
@benthompson @SahilBloom Sahil didn't stop "hustling" after that big retweet happened.
He just got more targeted with it.
Instead of just throwing his content at every big account, he only did it where it made sense.
Like this one example from a James Clear post:
@benthompson @SahilBloom This is barely scratching the surface.
I spent 45 hrs & put together a full deep dive.
Including:
- How to avoid limiting your growth
- Templates he uses for easy content creation
- How he comes up with amazing ideas
