Ever had a Vaginal Yeast infection?
Open up to find out...
๐Ÿงต
A yeast infection, also known as candidiasis or Thrush.
Yeast infections are primarily caused by an overgrowth of the fungus Candida albicans.
In the vagina, there is a bacteria that naturally lives in there i.e "Lactobacillus acidophilus". This helps fight overgrowth of microorganisms capable of causing infection.
This bacteria also helps keep the vagina flora or vaginal pH in check.
Once there is an imbalance between the good and the bad, boom you begin to experience certain symptoms.
These Certain Symptoms Include:
โ€ข Itching of the vulva and vaginal area
โ€ข Burning, swelling, redness and rashes in the genital area
โ€ข A thick, white, cottage cheese-like discharge
โ€ข Discomfort during sexual intercourse or urination.
โ€ข Vaginal sores or pains
These are factors that can cause a pH Imbalance:
โ€ข Use of feminine wash/harsh and scented soaps.
โ€ข Antibiotics use or abuse
โ€ข Douching
โ€ข Sex without proper lube & with multiple sexual partners
โ€ข Stress, Bad diet choices, poor sleep
โ€ข Diabetes, HIV, Hormonal Imbalance.
How can you treat this when one contracts it?
Treatment isn't a one size fits all, as it has to be personalized based on how often it reoccurs and the severity of the infection.
Also, a proper diagnosis needs to be made to ensure it isn't being confused with other types of infection, enabling effective treatment.
Hence, you need to discuss symptoms with a qualified health care provider.
