Today's update [June 12] is an urgent message to all those following events in Sudan, particularly those of the intl community involved in efforts to "resolve" the situation -- from the US/KSA to IGAD to the AU/UN:
A genocide is taking place in West Darfur.

For the last 49 days, residents & experts report that RSF & allied Arab militia have laid siege to the city of Gineina, capital of West Darfur.
They have been wreaking widespread havoc & violence on the city, targeting ethnically African residents of the state.

The violence has been brutal and unrelenting since April 24, unencumbered and unhindered by any of the agreements or ceasefires agreed upon in the Jeddah Talks -- even those which the warring parties (read: RSF) were praised for upholding.

Just today, several sources from Gineina, including the Roots Organization for Human Rights & Violation Monitoring, reported 17 people killed and 37 injured after the RSF & allied militia fired 26 RPG projectiles & a number of heavy weapons in residential areas.

Since April 24, at least 1,100 ppl have been killed & over 2000 injured in Gineina alone, amidst an almost total telecom blackout.
The numbers remain rough estimates, as unending violence makes it almost impossible to determine the magnitude of this disaster.

The Jeddah Declaration that RSF signed made provision of safe passage. This has not applied to residents of West Darfur, who remain trapped inside Gineina by RSF & allied militia.
Many who fled by car & on foot were reportedly killed.

Inside the city, conditions are beyond horrific.
Remaining residents were forced to relocate to northern neighborhoods - thousands of people in an area of about 5 km squared.
The city buckling under simultaneous food, water, medical & environmental crises.

Eyewitness accounts, as well as reports by lawyers, human rights defenders, activists and humanitarian workers in West Darfur all describe the violence as ethnic cleansing targeting indigenous African tribes.

The people of West Darfur are struggling for Sudan & the world to take notice of the atrocities committed against them.

A similar fate has befallen residents of Kutum & Kassab IDP Camp in North Darfur.
There, too, atrocities were committed by RSF & allied militia with impunity, and have gone unaddressed by both the Sudanese central govt & intl community.

The Sudan crisis is not limited to Khartoum, and thus cannot be measured solely by what happens in Khartoum.
Will the Friends of Sudan do right by the people of Darfur, and help bring all Sudanese people's suffering to an end?
