I dealt with cystic acne for years
Tried every practice, cream/wash, & even did a cycle of accutane with no success
Here is how I cleared up my acne forever (your dermatologist will hate me for this) 🧵:
Problem:
Skin is our largest organ and also happens to be heavily involved in detox, similar to your gut, liver, kidneys, & your lymphatic system
Acne is primarily caused by:
1.Gut dysbiosis: disturbed microbiome. Your gut is not a fortress like its supposed to be. Your insides and fortress wall (gut lining) are compromised, allowing toxins to seep into your blood stream, causing inflammatory responses that trigger/exacerbate acne
2.Hormonal fluctuations: hormonal imbalances caused by chronic stress, poor sleep/diet, exogenous hormone disruptors & environmental factors will disturb hormonal equillbrium which can lead to increased sebum production and acne
3.Food intolerances: eating foods that don’t agree with you will elicit inflammatory responses and lead to dysbiosis
4.Metal toxicity: exposure to toxic metals through diet and contact is unavoidable, but can be mitigated greatly. Toxicity will lead to inflammation and impaired detox function (liver, lungs, skin, lymph). If you can’t eliminate eliminate properly, acne is imminent
5.Poor lymphatic drainage: you have about the same amount of lymph as you do blood, yet no pump to move it around like your heart moves blood, with the purpose of keeping inflammation under control and removing waste. This is your systems primary mechanism of defense. Poor lymphatic drainage = inadequate toxic drainage & hormonal disruptions
Solution:
1. Elimination. By far the most powerful tactic you can use, (hence why extreme diets such as carnivore or veganism work for some). Eliminate ALL potential inflammatories (not forever). This does not only include ingestion but also what you’re putting on your skin. Read your labels.
-ALL dairy (I know you’re triggered)
-Gluten
-Seeds/seed oils
-Refined sugars
-Preservatives & dyes
-Glyphosate
-Fortified foods
-Frequent alcohol/smoking
-Make up/creams/low qual. skin cleaning products
2.Prioritize lymphatic mobility. Remember, there’s no pump to move it around.
-Move FREQUENTLY. Jump, twist, bend, stretch. Avoid stagnation.
-Massage/SMR
-Keep body temp. comfortable. You shouldn’t feel cold throughout your entire day
-Prioritize hydration. This implies proper mineralization
3.Create an environment conducive to hormonal stability
-High quality sleep
-Have a workout routine that maximizes recovery and mitigates excessive physical stress
-Eliminate frequent eating and snacking. Fasting works wonders, especially for males
-Follow the eliminating factors above
-Increase natural light exposure. Decrease blue light exposure
The majority of your benefit will come from REMOVAL, but there are a few supplements/practices that contributed to my reset:
-Myoinositol: aids in hormonal regulation in both males and females, especially if dealing with metabolic dysfunction and insulin resistance
-Increased collagen intake through connective tissue consumption
-Increased omega 3 through cod liver oil. NOT capsualted
-NAC/Milk Thistle/Dandelion root as detox organ support
-2 ingredient face wash + tallow balm
Chronic acne is socially debilitating. I used to ditch school to avoid giving class presentations. Would avoid eye contact with everyone and would skip all social events
I tried everything under the sun. Changed my sheets daily, washed up intensely, used every topical and even did a cycle of accutane which helped initially, but after 6mo acne ravaged back.
Your skin is a reflection of your insides & your insides are a reflection of your lifestyle. You are in control
