Jürgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta set out a blueprint for all clubs on how to conduct a modern rebuild.
They gutted their squad of subpar quality/characters, made short-term signings to improve their teams immediate level whilst spending big on long-term deals, and played a 4-2-3-1.

Most top teams play a 4-3-3, but to try and play a 4-3-3 with subpar quality straight away makes little sense.
Instead, pack the build-up with an extra midfielder to make things slightly easier for everyone and then slowly evolve the squad into the ideal long-term system.

That evolution is made up of smart signings, player development, and bringing youngsters through the academy (Saka, Martinelli, Nketiah, Trent, Elliott, etc).
I could write a thesis on how they did it, but these are the staples, all with their end-game system in mind..

Erik ten Hag is on a similar trajectory right now. We need to see if he keeps it up, though, but this summer’s dealings will be key to the process.
Interestingly, I never backed Conte, Mourinho or Nuno’s process from day 1, nor did I do it with Potter and Chelsea (and more).
Every team has a process but only some work, but the blueprint is there for all to see, & tactics must be at the forefront of it for success to occur..
