Data Interviews 101
In the past 6 years, I've interviewed countless people for data-related roles.
Want to know a secret?
I use the same 5 questions every time:
1/ Question: "Tell me about yourself."
Why I ask it: To gather a brief overview of the candidate's background and suitability for the role.
Good answer: Concisely share education, experience, key skills, and relevant achievements, avoiding unrelated personal details.
2/ Question: "What interests you most about this position?"
Why I ask it: To gauge the candidate's enthusiasm and alignment with the role.
Good answer: Show excitement, highlight role's responsibilities, growth opportunities, and alignment with skills and interests.
3/ Question: "Why do you want to leave your current role?"
Why I ask it: To understand the candidate's motivations and career aspirations.
Good answer: Focus on seeking new challenges, growth, and alignment with goals, maintaining a positive tone.
4/ Question: "What is your biggest weakness?"
Why I ask it: To assess self-awareness and willingness to improve.
Good answer: Share genuine weakness, discuss steps to address it, and emphasize commitment to personal growth.
5/ Question: "Do you have any questions for me?"
Why I ask it: To assess the candidate's preparedness and engagement in the interview.
Good answer: Ask thoughtful questions about the company, role, or specific aspects, showing genuine interest.
And there you have it, my secret sauce for interviews.
