This business model is called Amazon wholesale and I personally know plenty of people making a full-time income doing it (including me).
The process consists of these steps:
-finding suppliers
-sourcing products
-sending them to Amazon
-managing inventory

Finding suppliers is the first step in the process but also the hardest step, especially for new sellers.
But it doesn't have to be.
The best tools for finding suppliers are Google and SmartScout.
Use Google to find distributors, SmartScout to find brands.

Distributors must meet this criteria:
-carry brand name products
-sells to retail customers
-primarily B2B
Brands must have an existing Amazon presence and their products must already be selling well.

Once you've found a supplier now you have to find profitable products.
The best tool for this is SmartScout (again).
Put brand names into SmartScout, find products where Amazon doesn't dominate the listing.
Now look for those products in your supplier's catalog.

If they're profitable, add them to your order.
If the supplier doesn't carry that product, ask them if you can special order it.
This is a way to get access to products they don't normally carry.

You've found a solid supplier, sourced some profitable products.
Now it's time to send them to FBA where Amazon will warehouse them and ship them to the end customer.
We leverage a 3PL (third-party logistics company) to handle this entire process for us.

We order from our supplier --> supplier ships to 3PL --> 3PL ships to Amazon FBA.
Simple as that.
We never see or touch our inventory. Ever.

Once you start to build your porftolio of profitable inventory you need to make sure you're managing it properly.
Ways to do this:
-Use a repricer (keeps your pricing competitive)
-Know your profitability (software can show you which products to keep and which to drop)
-a top tier reimbursement service (gets you money back that Amazon owes you)

At the end of the day this process is simple, not easy.
This business has given me freedom to do just about anything I want.
It can do the same for you.
