Memory of Raja Man Singh: How was the great general remembered by the common populace before modern politically motivated anti Kacchawaha stance popularised by people with vested interests. A few examples are given below.
1. A. Court, a french officer in service of Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab, visited Manikyala stupa (built by Kushanas) in modern Pakistan. Local Muslims told him that this is resting place of rebel Aghans killed by Raja Man Singh. Clearly incorrect but it was how Man Singh was
remembered centuries after his time by locals.
2. Number of letters written by Afridi and other afghans to Jaipur royal families long after Raja Man Singh wishing to join their service and professing long devotion to Kacchawaha rajput.
3. Ballad of Panipat also called Bhau Ballad sung by local minstrels in Haryana. This is about Sadashivrao and the Marathas, and their battle with Afghans at Panipat. Here in this ballad it is said how Sadashivrao wanted to replicate the Saka of famed Raja Man singh against
Afghans. Saka is time honoured practice of Rajputs fighting till victory or death.
4. Famous Traveller, Alexander Burness when crossing the Attock river in 1832 saw some mysterious lights, locals told him that at this very place Raja Man Singh carried his war of revenge against
Afghans and the lights seen here are actually spirits of the departed.
5 . Raja Man Singh was considered champion of Hinduism by the bengalis before modern demeaning of the Raja began. His repeated lessons in civility to afghans in the east as well the west certainly helped.
6. In mid 18th century court poet of Raja of Krishnanagar in Bengal eulogised Raja Man Singh, "the ruler of Gauda, East Bengal and Orissa."
A rajasthani doha doesn't exaggerate when it says,
"मात सुणावै बालकां , खौफनाक रणगाथ।
काबुल भूली नहं अजै ,बो खाण्डो बे हाथ।।"
Certainly Kabul didn't forget the Khanda (broad, straight and double edged rajput sword) of Raja Man Singh for centuries after.
