Jyotirlinga are the 12 special shrines dedicated to Shiva since ancient times. Jyoti means 'radiance' and lingam means Sign' of Shiva; Jyotirlinga thus means the Radiant Sign of Shiva. 12 divine Jyotirlinga are-
1. Shree Somnath Jyotirlinga
Location- Gir Somnath, Gujarat
2. Shree Malikarjuna Swani Jyotirlinga
Location- Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh
3. Shree Mahakaleswar Jyotirlinga
Location- Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
4. Shree Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga
Location- Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh
5.Shree Kedarnath Jyotirlinga
Location- Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand
6. Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga
Location- Maharashtra
7. Shree Vishwanath Jyotirlinga
Location- Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
8. Shree Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga

The importance lies in the fact that each of the twelve Jyotirlingas is considered Swayambhu, meaning they are self-manifested and self-existent. They are not created by humans or artificially made. As a result, they represent the complete essence of Bhagawan Shiva.
According to the Koti Rudra Samhita of Shiva Purana-
सौराष्ट्रे सोमनाथं च श्री शैले मल्लिकार्जुनम् ।
उज्जयिन्यां महाकालमोंकारे परमेश्वरम् ।।
केदारं हिमवत्पृष्ठे डाकिन्यां भीमशङ्करम् ।
वाराणास्यां च विश्वेशं त्रयम्बकं गौतमीतटे ।।
वैद्यनाथं चिताभूमौ नागेशं दारुकावने । सेतुबन्धे तु रामेशं घुश्मेशं च शिवालये ।। द्वादशैतानि नामानि प्रात्यस्त्थाय यः पठेत् । सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तं सर्वसिद्धिफलं लभेत् ।।
Meaning-
Somanath in Saurashtra, Mallikarjuna in Shri Saile, Mahakala in Ujjaiyana and Parameshawara also manifested as Omkara. Kedara in Himavat and Bhima Shankara in Dakinya. Vishewaswara in Varanasi and Trayambaka in side of Gautami.
Vaidyanath in ChitaBhumi and Nageshwara in forest of Daruka. Rameshwara in Setubandha and Ghusmeshwara in Shivalaya. These name of 12 Jyotirlingas who recites in morning, he gets freed from all sins and is eligible to get all Siddhis.
The Places of Jyotirlinga are subject to research and not 100% certain however, The Jyotirlinga which I have mentioned is purely based on the recognitions made by greatest sage of this kaliyuga, Sri Adi Shankaracharya.
