A little context about this project:
The owner of this brand was familiar with SEO, so he had done his best to get the site SEO optimized.
But he wanted to bring on someone who was well-versed in eCommerce SEO, specifically, to take the brand's SEO to the next level.

But he wanted to bring on someone who was well-versed in eCommerce SEO, specifically, to take the brand's SEO to the next level.
Now onto what we actually did to achieve these results:
1. Technical SEO Audit
We ran a Screaming Frog crawl of the site to identify any technical issues that were hurting the site's ability to rank in Google.
There weren't a ton of issues...
But there was one BIG one!

There weren't a ton of issues...
But there was one BIG one!
The owner of the site did a good job clearing all 404 errors, fixing broken backlinks, creating a clean URL structure, etc.
But there were HUNDREDS of low-value pages being indexed.
And these pages were bloating Google's search results and ruining their SEO.

And these pages were bloating Google's search results and ruining their SEO.
These low-value pages were predominantly:
1. Paginated pages
2. Product Category Tag pages
We fixed this issue by adding a canonical tag to each Paginated page and Product Category Tag page that pointed to the "root" page.
For example:
1. Paginated pages
2. Product Category Tag pages
We fixed this issue by adding a canonical tag to each Paginated page and Product Category Tag page that pointed to the "root" page.
For example:
For the indexed page:
/collections/dog-collars?page=18
We would add a canonical tag to that page that pointed to:
/collections/dog-collars
This removed hundreds of pages from Google's search results and improved the overall quality of the site...
Along with the SEO!

2. Keyword Research
Ranking Product Category pages for transactional keywords is the name of the game in eCommerce SEO.
There were around 50 Product Category pages on the site, but there were 20 that we found good keyword opportunities for.
Ranking Product Category pages for transactional keywords is the name of the game in eCommerce SEO.
There were around 50 Product Category pages on the site, but there were 20 that we found good keyword opportunities for.
Some strategies we used to find keyword opportunities:
1. Check what keywords the page already ranks for
2. Check what keywords competitors with similar pages rank for
3. Manually look for keyword opportunities
1. Check what keywords the page already ranks for
2. Check what keywords competitors with similar pages rank for
3. Manually look for keyword opportunities
Once we had a pool of keyword opportunities for each Product Category page, we looked at each individual keyword to see if:
1. The keyword had purchase intent
2. The keyword was low-competition
3. The keyword had a substantial search volume
1. The keyword had purchase intent
2. The keyword was low-competition
3. The keyword had a substantial search volume
If the keyword checked all three boxes, that keyword would become the target keyword for that particular Product Category page.
We ran this process until we had target keywords for all 20 of the Product Category pages we were focusing on.

3. On-Page SEO
Now that we had target keywords picked out for each Product Category page, we needed to optimize that page for that target keyword.
We added the keyword to the pages:
1. Meta Title
2. Meta Description
3. H1 Tag
4. URL Slug

And that's it!
Doing just those three things was able to seriously increase organic traffic for this eCommerce brand in only 30 days.

It's worth mentioning that we did publish blog content and build links as well, but those actions won't produce results for another few months.
However, things like Technical SEO and On-Page SEO get picked up by Google almost immediately.

So if you want to see fast SEO results, those are the two areas you need to really focus on.
