In November last year 2022, I made a choice to diversify my career options, Cyber security was my choice. I started with an Introduction to Cyber Security from @Cisco, and after that, I took another Introduction to Cybersecurity from Great Learning Academy.
I started doing more research on career paths in Cyber security and creating my own syllabus to achieve my goals. By January 2023, I was chosen to take up not 2 but 3 Mentorship programs from @IBM @ItexperienceI the @Tech_Efiko community, and @ETHNOSLTD Cybersecurity Academy.
The next few months were a deep dive into concepts, methodology, and news on cybersecurity and its value worldwide. One of the first things I took in was the fact that Information security was a broader term and I immediately adopted that.
The second thing was that my technical knowledge which might be okay for a biological scientist, was still sorely lacking as an IT professional, so I completed the Google IT Support Certificate from Coursera. An absolutely excellent learning resource. I can’t recommend it enough
Over the next few months (Jan – April) I was able to gain the Cybersecurity Fundamentals badge from @IBM @ItexperienceI and cover levels 1-3 from the Fortinet Training Institute while gaining professional skills for working in a digital world.
@IBM @ItexperienceI The @Tech_Efiko community was a warm and welcoming place to meet like minds and share the required skills to begin a cybersecurity career, special thanks to @Generalsilas who offered me valuable advice.
“Don’t take too much on at the same time, Learn the fundamentals first"
@IBM @ItexperienceI @Tech_Efiko @Generalsilas The @ETHNOSLTD Cybersecurity Academy is a direct plug into the applicable tools and skills used in the real world. I wasn’t able to finish, sadly, but I am grateful for the opportunity I had to learn from experienced professionals about the value Cybersecurity professionals bring
@IBM @ItexperienceI @Tech_Efiko @Generalsilas @ETHNOSLTD After that, I join the Security Analyst Bootcamp from @VTFoundation pushed by @Cyberfecfalcon and the team.
Splunk is such a useful tool, and the trainings were very useful, just knowing how the tool works is a great opportunity. I learned to use it as well
@IBM @ItexperienceI @Tech_Efiko @Generalsilas @ETHNOSLTD @VTFoundation I took advantage of a discount from @SkillFrontCom to get a certification as an ISO/IEC 27001 INFORMATION SECURITY ASSOCIATE as well as earning the CERTIFIED ASSOCIATE IN SCRUM FUNDAMENTALS (CASF).
@IBM @ItexperienceI @Tech_Efiko @Generalsilas @ETHNOSLTD @VTFoundation @SkillFrontCom A few days ago, I took advantage of the FREE @ISC2 CinC certification and passed. This is a big deal for me, passing it is proof that I have actually been learning. It is not as simple to work and learn but my dedication to small bits of knowledge consistently has paid off.
@IBM @ItexperienceI @Tech_Efiko @Generalsilas @ETHNOSLTD @VTFoundation @SkillFrontCom @ISC2 I am already busy for the next few months with:
1. Networking Essentials from @Cisco @CiscoNetworking
2. Offensive Hacking Unfolded - The Beginner's Edition by @ComproAvi
3. Practical Ethical Hacking - The Complete Course from @TCMSecurity
@IBM @ItexperienceI @Tech_Efiko @Generalsilas @ETHNOSLTD @VTFoundation @SkillFrontCom @ISC2 @Cisco @CiscoNetworking @ComproAvi @TCMSecurity 4. Nmap for Ethical Hackers - The Ultimate Hands-On Course by @packetpioneer on Udemy
5. Burp Suite Unfiltered - Go from a Beginner to Advanced by @ComproAvi
6. Mobile application Penetration testing from @TCMSecurity
@IBM @ItexperienceI @Tech_Efiko @Generalsilas @ETHNOSLTD @VTFoundation @SkillFrontCom @ISC2 @Cisco @CiscoNetworking @ComproAvi @TCMSecurity @packetpioneer I got some of these trainings for free by following and interacting with Cybersecurity content on social media.
I am not there yet, whoever said progress is a slow process was definitely talking about me. I already have a few ideas for personal projects.
@IBM @ItexperienceI @Tech_Efiko @Generalsilas @ETHNOSLTD @VTFoundation @SkillFrontCom @ISC2 @Cisco @CiscoNetworking @ComproAvi @TCMSecurity @packetpioneer Huge thanks to @Generalsilas @E_Graciey @ireteeh @mr_sholape @sisinerdtweets @damnsec1 @CoyEmerald1 @CyberPatronmc who keep sharing words of encouragement and resources with us. Always keeping my mind focused.
If you ever have veterinary concerns, I could help with that.
Oops, I spelt the handle wrong sir.
@CyberSecFalcon
