The story is: There was a much-talked-about law amendment in 2021. When the government of Pakistan gave women the right to choose if they wanted to keep their father’s name on their CNIC while being married, I was among those who applauded it big time. dawn.com
Recently, While applying for my NICOP I noticed that on Nadra's portal I could really keep my father's name instead of my husband's while being married. I was more than happy, and I applied for my NICOP with my father's name as it aligned with all my educational and travel docs.
After a week, I received my NICOP, applied for my newborn's passport, and got an objection stating my application would not be accepted if I didn't update my CNIC with my husband's name.
So there is a law that gives me the right to keep my father's name by one government department, which is NADRA @NadraPak , but it is not acceptable by another government department, DGIP, @DGIPofficial which falls under the same ministry.
@NadraPak @DGIPofficial It's a humble request if both departments can coordinate to make a law amendment truly applicable.
