Here are some hypotheses I have about the "ice cream date" and personality traits in women who don't like them. Just informed guesses.🧵
1. Lower in trait agreeableness. They may be less willing to compromise and more willing to have a dispute over it at the outset.
2. A higher orientation toward resources and investment. However, this doesn't necessarily mean a higher orientation toward a serious long term relationship.
3. Perhaps higher in traits like Machiavellianism.
See the "foodie call." This is an old article, but more recent research has been done on this phenomenon. It actually seems to be quite common.

4. Higher orientation toward resource provisioning may also indicate low socioeconomic status or a past with low SES. Kind of the impression I get looking at a lot of the profiles on Twitter. (People who like brands and shows of wealth, but who may have little money.)
5. Lower in measures of idealistic romantic beliefs. They look toward what is "practical." This can be framed as wanting a "serious" sign of investment, or just wanting more out of it. The potential romantic connection and vibe isn't prioritized or placed at the top.
6. They may be a little older on average; a lot of the discourse seems to be from women dating in their 30s. They may also be trying to screen out men with a lower status or income than themselves.
7. They may be less serious/motivated to form an LTR, or less able to form an LTR, which may also explain singledom into the 30s. "High standards" can be an out for avoidant personalities, or those less motivated to form a relationship in the first place.
8. They probably are a little more physically attractive on average. This seems to be associated with being more "demanding" in the literature.
9. Maybe some differences (higher) in belief in some "traditional" gender roles or expectations; benevolent sexism.
I don't think any one of these explains the full picture, nor that every single woman who really wants a serious dinner first date would have all of these traits.
But if I were to compare the yes/no groups, these are variables I would look at to see if average differences exist.
