When it comes to education in Nigeria we need to face the reality. What is paid in universities is far too little.

So it is important for government to ensure every citizen has not only access to good quality education but it is compulsory for every child to receive it

The money that parents currently spend on early, primary and secondary education in Nigeria should be saved and spent on universities and for those who cannot? That is where scholarships and school loans come in (not the type currently offered where you have to have legšš¤®)
With good quality education up to secondary schools many will be able to do so much and there are some that would even attend online universities and co while working if they cannot attend brick and mortal universities direct
Most of the situations we have in higher institutions is that many pay x10 or x100 in primary and secondary what they are now paying in universities.

The greatest injustice in Nigeria is that access to good quality education is dependent on the economic status of oneās family.
If you are poor no matter how brilliant you are, you end up in government schools that will truncated your education

What we have today is that the poor are usually cut off from universities anyways.
The education they had up to secondary school cannot take them to university.

Let me start with scholarship!
First of all there are students whose brilliance can earn them scholarships and their parents would not need to pay for them to attend universities ( every parent wish of those onesš but we have to live what we haveš¤·šæ).

Universities can compete in attracting the best students to their schools with scholarships instead of the lazy attitude of waiting for government funds and not giving the best they can.
If people pay for universities they will question the current practice in most universitiesā¦

Local, State and Federal Governments can also have their scholarships systems based.
Religious bodies, corporate organizations, old students associations even PTA can be part of scholarship schemes

We can even start a new fad. Instead of the expensive monies we use for burials we can begin to have people set up foundations that give scholarships in memory of their loved ones

This should be available to everyone and not just those who can be guaranteed by certain individuals. I can tell you a lot of the poor will have no one to guarantee them.

Online schools is also another opportunity for people to acquire higher education at much reduced rate. It means people can be working and earning what they can use to pay off their fees.
The recent system we have where employment is based on paper qualifications will need to be examined. What one knows should trump what qualifications one has. There should be entry levels for those with good quality secondary education and they can learn on the job and grow.

UK has that system.
Where people are learning on the job and still working towards a degree. That way the students are paid while schooling.
We can even adopt the Igbo apprenticeship program to a university acquiring degree one

Another thing is that we have focused too much on university degrees. What about beauty schools? Acting schools? Fashion schools? Agricultural schools?
Fabrication schools? All these can be certified. They can be degree awarding. People get to do what they love and earn a degreeā¦

Why is Nigeria constantly reducing the cut off marks needed to enter university to meet failing standards in education? It should be increased and those with the capacity to excel go in while others find their niches in other certificates awarding schools I mentioned earlier
Reducing the criteria for entering universities gives us graduates who have no business with university degrees and end up waiting for white collar jobs that are not available instead of doing things they are good at and can excel and even be providers of white collar jobs
Autonomy will most likely force universities and other high institutions in Nigeria to revamp and begin to give education meant for the 21st century instead of 18th century.

Universities do not need to do all courses. They should excel in some very well and let others go. If I want to read creative writing I should have universities that are top in that?
Why do we have so many university doing veterinary medicine and we end up forcing people that choose to read human medicine there?
Why do we not have few specialize in that and use the resources and infrastructure to train more doctors? We can even train to export doctors

Nigerian doctors are in high demand. We have very intelligent people who want to read medicine but are sent to read courses like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacy, microbiology lab technology etc who end up as bank tellers.

I can assure you that not everyone wants to japa and with better country a lot of the qualified doctors will come back either for retirement or close to retirement.

Why do we even have courses like anatomy and physiology at undergraduate level? They should all be for MBBS and then anatomy and physiology can be done at postgraduate studies for those that need to specialize and teach it.
Still on the educational system we can have training schools for technology, ICT, even factory trainings to do some specialized jobs in manufacturing so we can have companies come to Nigeria and get their products done. There should be made in Nigeria i phones
