Your headline is THE most important element of your copy.
Yet most people don't know how to craft attention-grabbing headlines.
Here's the 9-step process we follow to write impossible-to-ignore headlines.
(Steal this):
Step 1: Address your target.
First, we need to get the attention of our ideal customer (and repel everyone else).
We'll do that by describing our target market as precisely as possible.
Example:
"For working dads older than 30."
Step 2: Mention their biggest pain.
Now that we have their attention, we need to empathize with them.
We'll do that by addressing their biggest pain and making it hurt.
Example:
"For working dads older than 30 struggling to lose unwanted fat."
Step 3: Create curiosity.
It's time to get them interested in what we have to say.
This one's pretty simple, we'll just mix in a few curiosity-inducing words.
Example:
"For working dads older than 30 struggling to lose unwanted fat. Discover how...".
Step 4: Highlight the benefit.
We have successfully made them curious about our offer.
Now, we must match their curiosity by showing them what's in it for them.
Example:
"For busy dads older than 30 struggling to lose unwanted fat. Discover how to lose weight."
Step 5: Evoke emotion.
The benefit is there, but it's not too appealing to our target audience.
Let's infuse some emotion into it.
Example:
"For working dads older than 30 struggling to lose unwanted fat. Discover how to regain your lean and muscular look from your 20s."
Step 6: Add a time frame.
They know what they'll get, but they also want to know when they'll get it.
So, let's add a time frame to give them an idea.
Example:
"[...] in just 12 weeks."
Step 7: Mention your unique mechanism.
Now that we've presented our offer, we need to separate it from our competitors.
We'll do that by mentioning the unique mechanism behind our product.
Example:
"[...] with our new 'fit-from-home' workout program."
Step 8: Add social proof.
Finally, we need to show people our product is well-known, legit, and effective.
In other words, we need to add social proof to our headline.
Example:
"[...] rated 5 stars by 2,500+ (now fit) dads".
Here's what we have so far:
"For working dads older than 30 struggling to lose unwanted fat. Discover how to regain your lean and muscular look from your 20s in just 12 weeks with our new 'fit-from-home' workout program. Rated 5-stars by 2,500+ (now fit) dads".
Step 9: Formatting.
Our headline is ready! Now we need to make it look good.
To do that, we'll arrange the headline into three parts:
1) Eyebrow (steps 1-2)
2) Headline (steps 3-7)
3) Subheadline (step 8)
We'll also bold, italicize, and underline a few words.
