This is done in certain temples where the cooks/cleaners/servers are Brahmins - they donโt want to touch other peoples plates/leaves with their hands so they serve on the ground and then throw water and clean it with a broom many times walking on it ๐ no soap is used so their
delicious barefoot germs/mud gets to be tasted by the next set of eaters.
Donโt worry there is a seperate Brahmin only eating area where things are done more respectfully.
This is exclusively for non-Brahmins.

Non Brahmin servers cleaners and cooks are not there/hired ever.
I went to one such temple as a kid. It was traumatising. I could taste the mud from the stone floor, could taste that it was so unhygienic. This is the humiliation that shudras, Dalits and tribals must go through for the sake of temple entry.
Professor vanitha Shetty was a famous case where she entered the Brahmin only eating area and the Brahmins asked her to get out! indiatoday.in
