CROP ROTATION (Definition, Importance and Considerations for a good Crop Rotation):
(a). DEFINITION:
Crop Rotation is the growing of different crops, one after another, on the same piece of land.

(b). IMPORTANCE OF CROP ROTATION:
1. Controls weeds, pests and diseases by breaking their life cycles.
2. If legumes are included in the rotation, they add nitrogen to the soil.
3. Maintains the soil structure since the levels of organic matter are maintained.

4. Helps recovering leached nutrients.
5. Controls soil erosion by ensuring a good vegetation cover all the time.
6. Reduces farming costs since it minimizes the use of fertilizers.

(c). CONSIDERATIONS FOR A GOOD CROP ROTATION:
(1). Deep and shallow rooters should alternate to enable the proper use of nutrients at different soil levels.
(2). Crops with the same nutrient requirements should not follow one another.
