| The πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ US Army Medium Tactical Vehicle (MTV) Company, a medium transportation capability. They serve in Composite Truck Companies, which are the C Company of Division Sustainment Support Battalions (formerly numbered companies under CSSBs).
| The main equipment of the MTV Platoon is the 5-ton MTV truck and associated trailer, a relative of the Steyr 12M18.
Heavy Divisions have 1 MTV Plt (20 trucks + trailers), 1 HET Plt, and 2 PLS Plts. Light Divisions have 2 MTV (40 trucks + trailers) and 2 PLS Plts.
| Unlike the 10x10 PLS trucks specializing in bulk cargo or HETs that can transport tanks and other armor, the MTVs are more suited to transporting personnel and breakbulk cargo.
| For this reason, while the Light and Heavy Composite Truck Companies have the same PLS capacity (160k gals water, 200k gals fuel, 80Γ— 20ft containers), Light Companies can carry 20-30% more breakbulk cargo and 600 troops (versus 300 in Hvy Cos)
| This is especially important for Light Divisions because their Rifle Companies aren't currently organically motorized without direct augmentation (i.e. issue of HMMWV, M-ATV, etc. from theater). So a footmobile IBCT requires trucks for operational moves.
| A 600-troop carrying capacity is about enough to one-lift 50% of the Rifle Companies in a single Infantry Brigade Combat Team (assuming those Rifle Cos are at 100% strength). Aside from the Dismounted Cav Troop, these are the only unmotorized elements in an IBCT.
| This isn't as much of a limitation for Stryker or Armored BCTs as those formations are organically motorized. IBCTs are usually augmented by theater-provided vehicles though. The Army is also now looking to organically motorize some IBCTs in a Light vs. Mobile BCT split.
| Here are the one-lift capacities of the Composite Truck Companies when at 100% availability (assuming reinforcement for convoy security).
| Truck platoons in general also have 5 M-ATV mine-resistant ambush protected vehicles for convoy escort and carry leadership/dispatchers. The TOE lists the Platoon Leader/PSG/Squad Leaders as riding in the M-ATVs.
| Other distribution assets organic to divisions include the Distribution Companies in Brigade Support Battalions and Distribution Platoons in Forward Support Companies (which support combat battalions).
| Note that Division Sustainment Brigades can control up to 5 additional attached CSSBs (modular logistics battalions) and the DSSB can accept 3 additional attached companies. Any number of these attachments could be additional Truck Companies of various types.
