Ganit (The Mathematics) - Part 2
A pictorial journey
Did you know that most of the modern concepts of the Ganit (Mathematics) were already discovered by our Vedic ancestors?
Let us traverse the journey of the Ganit in our Sanatan Dharma through pictorial representation.…
1. The Greatest achievement of Vedic culture was the development of a counting system that was capable of handling numbers larger than a Trillion.
2. The concept of the numbers and 10 as their base of geometric and exponential progressions was discovered.
3. Biggest problem was solved and that was a script to write the numbers of the Vedic numeral system.
4. Place value of the numerals was discovered which led to the development of the Ganit Sutras which revolutionized the Ganit (Mathematical calculations) in Vedic astronomy and Vedic architecture (Shilp Shastra and Vastu Shastra).
5. Shulabh Sutra is the most ancient and most comprehensive treatise on the Vedic mathematics detailing some amazing mathematical prowess of our Vedic ancestors.
6. Earlier tradition of Jainism made great contributed to Vedic mathematics.
7. Meru Prastsara was the second most comprehensive work on Ganit (Vedic Mathematics) after Shulabh Sutras.
8. Shunya or the concept of Zero was the greatest discovery our Vedic ancestors contributed to the world of mathematics.
9. If you analyze our everyday Vedic symbols and rituals, you will find that all of them are based on some of the sutras our Vedic ancestors discovered.
10. Aryabhatta the great ancient mathematician made great contributions to Astronomical mathematics through his two books Aryabhattiya and Arya Sidhanta.
11. Brahmagupta wrote Brahmshphutasidhanta and made enormous contributions to the Algebra, Quadratic equations, astronomical mathematics, and Mathematics of the complex numbers.
12. Bhaskara 2 wrote Lilawati and Beej Ganita. He made great contributions to the mathematics of indeterminate equations, created the most comprehensive sutras on Algebra and created new methods to solve complex numbers and hypothetical equations of the complex numbers.
13. Lilavati daughter of the Bhaskracharya made enormous contributions to the field of probability and combinatorics.
14. Kerala School of Mathematics created a separate mathematical school parallel to Vedic sutras with Madhva, Neelkantha, and Parmeswara being the prominent doyens in the field of the mathematics of the finite and infinite series, Trignomatry, and algebra.
15. But the most miraculous contribution of the Vedic mathematics is the concept of Pi, which is mentioned in Rigveda and Yajurveda also.
16. So if you analyze the daily life of our Sanatana ancestors, you will find that amazingly everything was based on mathematics with equally great geometrical precision. Such was the beauty of their knowledge.
17. End of Part 2
Part 3 of the Series "Science in Vedas" will explore Physics or Bhautiki Shastra as mentioned in our Vedic scriptures.
18. Please share it further to spread the light of the Sanatan.
Sanatan is the light and Dharma is the path.
Please feel very very proud of your Sanatan Lineage.
Blessings from Shri Krishna to you.
