One first thing to note : Jamal Musiala has a preferential area to start his moves when Bayern approached penalty box. Especially in counter attacking phase, defenders can't predict Musiala's moves.
This coutner-attacking scheme under Nagelsmann has been repetitive throughout the season, and Musiala took different positions, with most of the time same result : dangerous situation and goalscoring chance.
The way Musiala can also make himself invisible from defenders marking is astonishing, especially at his young age. Nagelsmann frequently used this positioning to create danger from both areas : zone 14 or lanes.
His moves around penalty box are his biggest strength in my opinion. He doesn't attack penalty box all the time. He prefers to move around a pivot, or in his favorite area. His ability to find shot angle even if he's trapped by 6 players has to be pointed out.
When defenders apply a too-strong man-marking on him, Nagelsmann allowed more freedom for Musiala to take enough speed from channels (wide positioning) to end up just in front of penalty box where he's the most dangerous, given his speed with the ball.
As wa statued, Musiala starts his moves from the red circle (first picture). When he receives the ball into penalty box, he showcased his second best asset : short dribbles JUST before the shot. I insist on 'just' because that's what makes his dribbles efficient.
Musiala's most efficient dribbles are attempted into penalty box. His longshot is also a good weapon, very useful for Bayern even in the last matchday. Muller, his mentor, gave him a nice number of chances to score goals, and most of the time Musiala converted it.
Again, Musiala has now a classic move :from zone 14, he drops into penalty box, dribbles just before shooting His scans are also brilliant, given reduced spaces a forward has in penalty box. He manages to find the right position to have enough distance (so time) to take decisions
Another illustration concerning his ability to move away from man-marking in set-pieces situations against Hoffenheim : a terrible mistake from Hoffenheim's defense, but correctly exploited by Musiala.
As I said, Musiala, from central area as always, tended to use a pivot to have more freedom to move around (with curved moves) defenses to take the ideal shot position. Choupo-Moting fulfilled that role perfectly, and I think Musiala needs a profile like Eric.
Musiala's efficiency in his dribbles is insane. The most impressive part is that he seems to know when doing it rather than passing the ball. These dribbles just before the shot are devastating for defenses.
Musiala is also capable of incredible goals, but in the same process as the others : trying to escape from man-marking first, then ending up in zone 14, and start being dangerous : short dribbles or short ball conducts and suddenly shoot.
Regarding his young age, Musiala already has this attitude to take huge decisions in key moments : this season, he decided to take that risky shot, on the last game, 88th minute, Bayern was 2nd. His shot efficiency spoke for itself, the rest belongs to drama.
Musiala has already reached an incredible level of maturity in his moves, especially in front of penalty box. His uniqueness in his dribbles, juste before the shot, makes him a rare gem across Europe. Bayern will have to make much effort to keep him as long as possible.
