The proposed Health Bill suggests mandatory registration for all Kenyans in the Social Insurance Healthy Fund (SHIF), replacing the NHIF.
Unregistered individuals may be denied access to public services in county and government institutions.
Children will be registered once the bill becomes law
Non-Kenyans residing in the country for 12 months will be eligible for SHIF registration
Deduction of up to 2.75% of gross pay to be channeled through SHIF.
Public Health facilities will be allowed to spend money at source for smooth operations
Defaulting employers face Sh1 million fine or three years in jail or both.
