A verdict was sought from Sheikh al-Islam Khayr al-din al-Ramli al-Hanafi [d.1081/1671] (the mentor of al- Haṣkafi) about a man who hit his wife and made her lose three teeth
He responds by saying that compensation (ḍamān) is obligatory, even if he had the right to hit her.
This is because hitting the wife is restricted to no harm being made (bi sharṭ al-Salāmah)
The husband was ordered to pay 753 dirhams or 7 camels and the value of half a camel
