The modern Igbo alphabet (Mkpụrụ Edemede Igbo), also known as the Abidịị Igbo is the alphabet of the Igbo language.
It has 36 letters, which includes a 23-letter set from the basic Latin alphabet and 13 extra letters to cover the range of phonemes in Igbo.
Abidịị lacks the C, Q and X letters. C sound is replaced by S, Q by KW and X is not found in the Igbo language.
Additionally, Abidịị has, CH GB GH GW KP KW Ṅ NW NY SH, the dot above on the letter Ṅ, and the dot below on Ị, Ọ and Ụ.
These ensures that the letters are also phonemes and always pronounced the same way, unlike English where for example, letter C can be pronounced as the phoneme sound K.
