In 1974, Amy Billig disappeared while hitchhiking to her father's art studio in Coconut Grove, Florida. Despite numerous leads, nothing concrete could be established, although it was pretty clear that her disappearance was not voluntary.
In 1998, Jack Calvar, the lead detective on the case stated that he believed she was taken by members of the Pagans' motorcycle gang, drugged, raped and murdered. Also stating that her body was dumped into the Everglades within hours of her abduction.
Paul Branch, a Pagans "enforcer," died in December 1997. As his life came to an end, the convicted murderer reportedly told his wife how Billig was grabbed and taken to a "party" in the Everglades, Calvar said. Before the party ended, she was dead.
Branch had been interviewed by police over the years, but had never admitted to knowing what happened to Billig.
However, detective Calvar said Branch's confession, first reported by his wife in December 1997, included dozens of details consistent with information previously gathered by investigators.
Despite the intense publicity surrounding Amy's disappearance and repeated efforts to locate her alive or deceased, her disappearance is still considered to be unsolved.
