If you have a newborn, avoid Henna like a plague!
If you have a child with G6PD deficiency or a child that the urine sometimes gets dark, run away from Henna!
I know you have chosen the design that you will use for naming, ditch that idea because you may harm your newborn.
Some science!
The active ingredient henna dye is Lawsone.
Lawsone is a chemical substance that has been shown to increase oxidative stress.
This leads to the breakdown of red blood cells.
When red blood cells are broken down, a by-product 'bilirubin' is produced.
Bilirubin is yellow in colour, and it is what is responsible for that yellow skin colour in people with jaundice.
Bilirubin is very dangerous to the developing brain and can cause permanent damage if it finds its way into the brain.
The skin of the newborn is permeable and can easily absorb toxins. Other items that may have the same effect as henna are: camphor, dusting powder, mentholatum, or menthol containing substances.
If you have to use these, wait until your infant is older.
If your child's urine is dark coloured or you notice the eyeballs or skin are yellow at any age, please see a doctor.
For those saying "I used henna and nothing happenned" remember the child that will be affected won't inform you
