THREAD: The Sikh Coalition is deeply saddened to learn of the death of 66-year-old Jasmer Singh, who was assaulted following an altercation after a car accident in Queens on October 19. Mr. Singh passed away from his injuries in the hospital on October 21.

The suspect, who has since been arrested and charged, allegedly became violent when Mr. Singh sought to involve police in mediating their car accident. We remain in contact with both the NYPD and Queens sangat members to understand how we can be helpful in this case.

For those who continue to advocate and raise awareness around this and other recent attacks on NYC sangat members, we continue to urge against racist language or generalizations. Just as no community is deserving of hate, no one community is solely *responsible* for it either.

We remain committed to standing together with all marginalized groups, who also stand with us, to push for better policies to counter and prevent bias-motivated violence.
