We went from exhausted, stressed & out-of shape parents
To fit, full of energy & raising the family of our dreams
Here are 7 habits we used to transform our family
We've been working with clients professionally for +20 yrs helping them with:
Sleep
Stress
Fitness
Nutrition
Parenting
Even with this experience, the challenges of raising our family hit us hard & our health suffered
But we transformed our lifestyle & now our family thrives💪
1. We make a point to get outside every day
Nature heals
It reduces stress & boosts moods
It encourages play, curiosity & adventure
It helps support healthy minds & bodies for both kids & adults
And provides a great setting for quality family time
2. We prioritize a positive mindset & gratitude
In a world where there is plenty of negativity,
And wanting more "stuff" is encouraged,
We want to normalize positive self talk & being grateful for the important things in life ( like health, happiness & loved ones)
Together we do positive affirmations every morning
Things like:
I am loved
I am brave
I am strong
I never quit
And we talk about things we are grateful for every night
Family
Friends
Good health
It has made a massive difference in all of our attitudes & self confidence
3. We have learned to enjoy healthy food together
We all go to markets, farms & orchards to source fresh ingredients
We plan meals, prep & cook together
We make a point to eat meals together
This has normalized healthy eating for us & the kids
And we all have fun doing it.
4. Lots of play
We used to be "too busy" or "too tired" for play
Now its something we prioritize almost daily
Our kids love to colour, build lego or play in the sand
As a parent its healthy to let yourself be a kid again
This has enhanced our relationship with our kids
5. We built routines
Many families struggle without routines & we were no different
Kids thrive on routine & it makes parenting easier
Routines make mornings smoother, bedtimes special & eating more enjoyable
We've built routines that work for us & we are happier & healthier
6. We monitor screen time for us all
Screens aren't good babysitters
Screens dont make good family time
Screens impair kids development
We use screens for learning
We monitor the little free screen time kids get
We dont use screens around our kids
We are all happier for it
7. We normalize physical activity & fitness for the whole family
As parents we make fitness fun around our kids
Bear crawl races
Pull ups on the monkey bars
Who can hold a plank the longest
We make kid-friendly workouts in our home gym
They see us being fit & want to join in
Bonus: Parent Self Care!!
The most important thing a parent can do is take care of themselves
Looking back to when we were burnt out, it impaired our ability to take care of our kids
Now we make time for ourselves daily to charge our batteries
And we are better parents for it
