Many find Snoring unpleasant.
Inasmuch as lot of people snore. Snoring sometimes might actually mean a serious disease is beneath.
Here are some shocking facts about Snoring, and what you can do to help

Snoring happens due to relaxation of tissues in the neck area or obstruction there. since the air has to pass through a narrowed pathway.., the shrills created by the air leads to the harsh sounds which the person produces during sleep.
But there is more to this . A quick pause
During this period of sleep, there can be reduced Oxygen flow to some vital parts of the body and that can be dangerous.
Snoring can be associated with a Sleep problem called SLEEP APNEA. It can be dangerous (This requires medical attention)
NOT ALL SNORERS HAVE SLEEP APNEA
What causes Snoring
- anatomy of neck & mouth
- being overweight or obese ( extra fat in those areas can cause little blockage)
- Alcohol (relaxes the muscles, increases chances for blockage)
- abnormal sleep positions
- Nose problems
- not getting enough sleep increase snoring
Snoring might just constitute a nuisance to people around, but in the entity called SLEEP APNEA where the person stops breathing, chokes cough and wakes up and sleep can be dangerous
Why?
- since they are not sleeping well, they start to sleep during the day , at work, anywhere
it can affect their concentration
some of them can even sleep while driving and have accidents. oh yes, it happens
studies have shown people with sleep apnea have higher risk of hypertension,, stroke, heart attacks.
Someone snoring with OSA in a family can increase your risk
What to do if you snore? (especially SA)
- See a Doctor
- Try and lose weight
- Get adequate sleep
- change your sleep positions to healthier and better ones
- you can see a sleep therapist
- stop smoking
- cut your alcohol
- if you have a partner, carry them along
PS- Sometimes if all these don't work studies to detect sleep problems are available and can be requested
Also machines and appliances might also be issued to help sleep well and reduce it ( quite pricey though)

Other available devices include A CHIN STRAP
Basically how it works is it applies pressure and closes the mouth. Reducing mouth breathing and increasing breathing through the nose and reducing snoring
Another one is MANDIBULAR ADVANCEMENT DEVICE
This is usually worn in the mouth, it tightens the tissues of the airway, this tightening reduce the shrills of Vibration produced by snoring
There are many options available for Snoring. If you find yourself Snoring and it is affecting you.
Talk to your Doctor, see a sleep therapist...many things can be done.
