There is an irony in the fact the Zaydī position on the Ṣaḥāba, in some respects, can be more extreme than the Twelver position. Unlike the Twelvers, Zaydīs maintain belief in al-Waʿd wa-l-Waʿīd, which holds that an unrepentant major sinner is condemned to eternal damnation.
Sunnis and Twelvers maintain that the Prophet's ﷺ intercession (shafāʿa) spans major sinners, but the Zaydīs (and their Mutazilite predecessors) rejected this belief.
One observes this corrupt doctrine influencing Zaydī discussions on the Ṣaḥāba, obfuscating their perception.

Of course, the scope of this Zaydī position is relatively limited, and it is not as destructive as the Twelver position. Nonetheless, it opens the door to theoretical instances where the Twelvers maintain a companion's salvation while the Zaydīs condemn him to eternal damnation.
