Protection is a severely misunderstood matter.
Men, Don't let your masculine instincts of protection ever put you in a precarious position with a woman.
If a woman (not your sister/wife) deliberately or carelessly puts herself in a dangerous situation, you'd be wise to walk away.

Most people have this whole protection cinder all Wrong.
Protection without control is extreme carelessness... is throwing your life away... is foolishness.
With any true form of protection comes restrictions and some significant level of control over the target of protection.

It's sad, unfortunate and even quite hilarious today that men are expected to rush out to risk their lives for careless women who PUT THEMSELVES in said dangerous situations and who usually have repeatedly said are "independent and powerful" and "don't need men"...
It's laughable and pretentious to expect the "outdated" & "oppressive" traditional behavior of men without the authority & control traditional men should have.
To put this is perspective, let me use two illustrations to explain: Security detail and valuable jewelry & accessories.

1. Whenever hiring a security detail, you sign a contract that allows them effectively protect you by giving them control over your security. As security personnel, they reserve the right to instruct and dictate your movement and freedom to a large extent the your well-being.
They have the right to refuse you certain freedoms if they put you in dangerous situations or positions. Depending on your contract, they can do this even against your will for your own protection, since Refusal to adhere to their instructions could lead to compromising...
...situations where they have to put their lives at risk to protect you... situations which could be avoided by your compliance to their instructions. Now this is also how it's been in the days of old. There was this unwritten yet tacit understanding amongst everyone.
Men were obligated to protect women in danger, because generally they were better behaved, far more obedient and most importantly, were under the care of male protective figures in their lives. Women being in such situations was a rare occurrence in the first place. Unlike today.
Women have been "liberated" today (& been conditioned to believe they're oppressed) and with that comes its dangers too.
2. Then, look at jewelry and other valuable items (say diamonds, gold, precious stones)... They're usually kept SAFE & SECURE in protective boxes, rooms etc.

They're RESTRICTED from random or public access. Even with access, they're not easy to attain or collect. That's the price for their protection - Restriction.
On the other hand, you can collect cheap & ordinary rocks and stones anywhere; roadside or even dumps.

If you want protection, you must surrender control and be compliant to the protector otherwise you will not get the level of protection you seek, and may end up just making that person risk their lives for your stupidity or carelessness.
