Nightmare for Man City! Erling Haaland suffers ankle injury during Norway’s friendly against Faroe Islands. Why is this bad bad news for Man City? They have a clash with Liverpool coming up and they lead by only one point in the Premier League standings.
The forward came off the bench in a friendly match which his side eventually won 2-0. One of the reasons he came off the bench was because it wasn't the most important match. But what's bad is that doctor Ola Sand has hinted that the 23-year-old had injured the same ankle before.
There's some hope though. Sand revealed, per Vg: "He got a slight twist in his ankle, where he is a bit vulnerable. It hurts a lot right away, and then it goes away pretty quickly. Then we'll see tomorrow how he is then."
But what's the bigger picture? Why did Haaland have to play this game even if it was for a little bit? Well, Haaland is just six goals away from securing Norway's all-time goalscoring record, positioning himself to become his nation's most prolific striker.
On the one hand, this achievement will unfold remarkably swiftly, considering that Haaland scored his inaugural goals for Norway as recently as 2020.
On the other hand, it marks the end of a prolonged era, as Norway's goalscoring record, established by the intriguing Jorgen Juve, has stood as the world's longest-standing outright individual feat since he concluded his international career in 1937.
As for Man City, Haaland has been in relentless form thus far this season and has scored 17 goals in 18 games. Any potential absence will be a bitter blow for Guardiola and City as they aim to retain the treble they won last season.
