DELHI MEDIA GOSSIP 🧵: apparently the latest Washington Post India story is a pay for play (payment in kind). @NetflixIndia is shitting bricks that #Archies will bomb. Problem is the maker wanted this to be her soft jihadi version glorifying the farmer protests as
“Youth resistance”. Unfortunately it seems the film maker rehashed a 1990s Archie’s movie “to riverdale and back” which had the exact same storyline. The problem is Netflix’ management bought the remake without realising the political agenda till too much money had been sunk.
Moreover the careers of many Nepo-Kids are dependent on it. Not only would Netflix lose money, it would also burn bridges with the daddies, mummies, granddaddies and grandmummies of said nepo kids, if cancelled. Enter Gerry Shih and WaPo who follow a doggedly ideological line
Netflix found its useful idiot hoping the generated “faux outrage” would buffer the impact of the movie bombing. They’re hoping this “censorship” debate will 1) deflect away from management failure im when the movie bombs and/or 2) give them an excuse to approach nepo-parents to
explain why the movie isn’t releasing. So don’t get fooled by WaPo, Gerry, Netflix or anyone manipulating this. Ask Netflix to release #Archies and enjoy it bomb domestically and internationally.
