The STORY of Ibrahim Abdalla Akasha
The Pablo Escobar of East Africa...
THREAD.
Have you ever wondered how Mombasa Port became one of the major drug trafficking hubs in the world & route for drugs from Middle East meant for European Markets ?
Well If you're a lover of hip-hop you've probably heard this @octopizzo lyric which takes you close to the answer ,
"Naspit fire then I let it burn like Usher, Corrupt game nadai cash ka Akasha...."
The Akasha @octopizzo mentions is non other than Ibrahim Abdalla Akasha, the business mogul who singlehandedly opened our port for business with drug Lords from Middle East back in the day.
Raised in Msa by Pakistani parents, Akasha started out as a legit businessman who owned a Transport company which on the front delivered imported goods from the port & ferried back those for export.
However the sweetness of big bucks turned him into a handler of Heroin & Hashish from Afghanistan meant for Europe. This was b/c the mafia was looking for a new route that was free from cops & Akasha provided the Transport & Logistics !!
The Southern Route.
This made Akasha The Don of East Africa b/c if you needed contraband to dock at Kenya Port, Akasha would make that happen for you at a FEE !!
He was able to do this b/c he had briefly worked as a Director of KENATCO - a gvt owned transport company that transported Oil to Zambia while bringing back Copper to Msa for Export. This was b4 it was closed in 1983.
As director, he got to know the routes.
Routes that made him a VIP to drug dealers of South Africa who dealt in Mandrax like Vijay Goswami aka Vicky.
Vicky had fled India & settled in Zambia after catching a drug case for supplying Mumbai partygoers with Mandrax.
While in Zambia, Vicky established a Mandrax Factory that needed Akasha's hand to transport the tablets across the borders.
He partnered with Akasha but was deported in Nov 1993 after it came to light that he was a drug dealer in disguise of a business man.
Which was after Akasha's son Nurdin Akasha was arrested in TZ on July 93 with Mandrax worth $8, 994,000 dollars hidden in Akasha Transport Ltd Trucks destined for Zambia.
Nurdin tried to bribe the cops with Ksh 910K but the TZ cops said " Naomba usinihonge..."
Back at home, Akasha also lost a court case against a young lawyer which was his first loss in court ever. He was being sued by a Malindi Family millions of dollars...
Despite having the best lawyers he lost to a young @DonaldBKipkorir
Suffering these loses, Akasha forged a master plan. He understood " Everybody has got a Price & he was willing to pay
Since corruption was very high in Kenya buying protection was easy like ABC...
He started off by buying out police chiefs in the Coastal Region who made sure his trucks weren't stopped for checks during transit.
He bought coast police boss Edwin Nyasenda a house in Savannah Estate & paid fees for kids of his Ass. Comm of Police James Munyua
In the corridors of Justice, he greased Justice Phillip Waki who was suspended for corruption & an investigation done on him by a tribunal revealing that Akasha also paid fees for kids of AG Amos Wako & Chief Justice Bernard Chunga.
He even turned police officers sent to work on his case into his workers b/c he offered them 10x their salary just to escort his trucks.
Police sleuths like Mohammed Ghani Taib wondered how anyone could refuse such a chance...
With the law in his pockets, Akasha knew he was untouchable. Where possibly could anyone take him ?
This was a lesson Khurshid Butt learnt the hardway when he tried suing Akasha 4 times but failed since the judge was non other than Phillip Waki.
When the law failed him, Bhutt sized his balls by going to Akasha's house to demand payment but sadly Akasha's son kidnapped him and tortured the poor bloke.
The poor man had to wait until Akasha died so that he could report due to fear..
Same way police chief Price Kalume Chai waited years to reveal that when he went to look for Mr Kharshid Butt, he was also kidnapped & disarmed.
He was then beaten with a hockey stick to his legs for carrying a gun into Akasha's home.
Then Akasha called the Coast police boss Edwin Nyaseda & summoned him to his house. Akasha gave the gun back to Nyasenda to handle it over to his junior Kalume while warning him to never step into the bosses house !
It was protected !
In April 1996, police seized 19,000Kg of Hashish worth millions from a lorry that had stuck in Chale Island Kwale.
This was major and it was the reason why Akasha was arrested in Dec for the first time in his life
He was however not jailed like the boss he was .
As if things couldn't get any worse, the following year 1997, his friend Vicky Goswami who had been deported in Zambia & relocated to SA , was arrested in Dubai with Mandrax worth US $ 6M & jailed for life
This was a sign to Akasha.
A sign for him to change his ways but that was never the case. Akasha looked for new partners & striked a deal to deliver Hashish thru Kenya to Dutch Cartels in Amsterdam via an Egyptian conduit.
This was the deal that'd cost his life.
When he delivered one consignment, the Dutch Gangster Sam Klepper of Hells Angels refused to pay. This angered Akasha who flew to Amsterdam in a fake passport to demand pay in Dec 1999.
While at it he kidnapped his conduit who connected him to Klepper to force payment.
Back at home, police raided his home & found Hashish worth 940M in Jan 2000. They seized 10 high end cars, 60KG gold ingots & a luxury boat from the beach house
They then issued a warrant of arrest for Akasha in Amsterdam & his son who had ran away with some drugs b4 the raid.
