Pi is a new AI chatbot launched recently by Inflection.
You can use it on your computer or a mobile device (iOS and Android).
It's totally free.
Here's an overview of Pi and a comparison with ChatGPT 3.5
Go to inflection(dot)ai and click on "Meet Pi" and create an account.
Pi has a bunch of useful "personas" that you can access by clicking on "Discover."
You can use these personas for anything from venting to brainstorming to career planning.
I like this feature. Plus the user interface feels polished.
To test Pi as a brainstorming partner, I ask it to help me brainstorm research questions about contemporary anglophone Pakistani fiction with regard to world literature and postcolonialism.
Pi's suggestions are useful but seem a bit superficial.
I take one of Pi's suggestions to dig deeper and it hallucinates (i.e. making things up on its own).
One of the books Pi suggests does not even exist.
Compared to Pi, ChatGPT 3.5 gives me much better suggestions.
It may be because I have been using ChatGPT for nearly a year and it sort of knows what my interests are.
Here is another example of the comparison between Pi and ChatGPT 3.5.
I tell both Pi and ChatGPT 3.5 that I have been shortlisted for an interview for a Fulbright scholarship.
Then I ask them about the kind of questions I could be asked during the interview.
Pi's suggestions are short and superficial while ChatGPT 3.5 responds like it really wants you to ace the interview.
That said, if I were running Pi, I wouldn't worry too much about it. A year ago ChatGPT answers lacked nuance too and see how exponentially the model has improved over a year.
Pi also have this cool feature called "SupportPi" in which it "will talk things through, offer advice, and be a sounding board for anything on your mind."
If you try it out, I'd love to know what you think about Pi and how it compares with ChatGPT.
