NOW: Jewish organizers in Los Angeles with IfNotNow have stopped and are blocking the 110 Freeway downtown calling for a ceasefire in Gaza:
This is what this interchange looks like now:
They are now symbolically 'lighting' a Hannukah menorah while chanting "Down down with occupation" on the 110 freeway:
California Highway Patrol has arrived:
Protesters have sat down on the freeway and are now singing:
CHP is calling for people to leave the freeway:
A motorcycle drove through the protest line - nobody injured or hit as far as I could tell - and people have left their cars irate to argue with the protesters. One man throws at traffic cone at the menorah:
More CHP officers have arrived:
One man has started pushing protesters and a motorcyclist is revving his engine at them:
More people on the freeway attack protesters - with one being thrown to the street - and CHP steps in:
CHP just announced that all people on the freeway southbound as well as *specifically* all members of the media are in violation of the law and subject to the arrest immediately.
I asked for a clarification from an officer RE: media - who said that I was breaking the law.
My phone died - apologies - but when I left to charge CHP had been arresting all protesters in zip ties (last footage I got was of them breaking out the zip ties) as well as two legal observers with the National Lawyers Guild.
Also - the CHP officers dragged the menorah to the side of the highway.
