Everyone talks about farming crypto airdrops but nobody shows you how!
This is my crypto airdrop giga-thread. Today I will teach you the most common farming methods and airdrop basics so you can start farming today!!
LFG 👇
1/38
🟪 What You'll Learn 🟪
80% of airdrop farming comes down to a few basic tasks. Doing these tasks is enough to get you big airdrops and takes very little time.
The other 20% of tasks are much more difficult, time-consuming and often way more expensive.
2/38
While the difficult tasks can boost the amount you get as an airdrop, they are not essential. So, I'll cover them in another guide!
In this guide, we're focussing on the 80% of easy tasks. This will be enough for you to easily secure big airdrops with little time invested!
3/38
🟪 Why Farm Airdrops? 🟪
A lot of people think that airdrop farming is not worth the time. But when you know how it's quick.
And the time investment is tiny compared to the rewards. You can get a $10k airdrop for a few hours of your time with < $100 in transaction fees.
4/38
It sounds too good to be true but just recently the ARB and TIA airdrops printed 3-5 figures for farmers!
Airdrops are one of the best time investments in crypto. And as a bonus, you learn A LOT about how web3 works in the process.
But why do they give money away?
5/38
🟪 Why Airdrops Happen 🟪
Two main reasons. First is that new networks/DApps want to build a community. and the best way to build one is by giving them money. Simples!
Second is testing and optimisation. Farmers use the network/DApp so the devs can spot bugs and optimise!
6/38
🟪 Before You Start 🟪
You are going to need an airdrop farming MetaMask (or other EVM) wallet. DO NOT USE YOUR MAIN WALLET.
You will be connecting an airdrop wallet to a lot of different sites so you want an airdrop-specific wallet with minimal funds in it.
7/38
An important factor in airdrop farming is wallet age and transaction history.
So, instead of creating a new wallet for airdrops, many people transfer their cryptos to a new wallet and use their now empty older wallet for airdrops.
Up to you, just don't use your main!
8/38
🟪 Farming Airdrops 🟪
From here I'll focus on farming networks to keep this concise, but most of this applies equally to DApps.
A network is a layer 1 (L1) or layer 2 (L2) project. I'll use L2s like $LINEA and $MANTA as I'm farming these right now!
9/38
When a network launches it needs users and rewards those users with airdrop points for things like:
• Bridging & transactions
• Staking, liquidity, lend/borrow
• Governance
• Holding tokens
• Referrals & socials
Let's talk about how to do each of these!
10/38
🟪 Bridging & Transactions 🟪
The first step in farming airdrops on a new L1/L2 is bridging (sending) a little ETH or stable to it, $50 is enough in most cases.
You need funds on the network for most of the actions above. This is why you bridge!
11/38
But bridging also gets you points and the more points you get, the bigger your drop. So let's break down how to bridge step-by-step.
We will use MANTA as an example.
This is where you need to be VERY careful. There are a lot of fake bridges out there!
12/38
You need to be sure you use the official bridge to send funds to the network you want to farm.
Generally, you get more points using the official bridge over a third party and it's safer.
You find official bridges from the network's website! Here's how 👇
13/38
🟣 Finding An Official Bridge 🟣
Step 1: Go to CoinMarketCap and search for the network e.g. Linea
Step 2: On the networks page look for "website" under "Official Links"
Step 3: Bridges are usually linked on the homepage but sometimes you need to dig a bit deeper!
14/38
🟣 Bridging to Linea 🟣
Linea uses the MM bridge as it's official bridge. Here's how to bridge ETH to Linea:
Step 1: Connect your wallet
Step 2: Select the networks and cryptos (ETH is best!)
Step 3: Click confirm and then confirm the transaction in MM
All done!
15/38
Above it's $20 in ETH gas fees to send $100 to Linea, this is a lot! Be mindful of gas fees!
If gas is high wait for it to lower or bridge from a cheap network like OP if possible. Some bridges are ETH only though so you need to eat the fee or use a third party bridge!
16/38
🟣 Third-Party Bridges 🟣
You can also use a trusted third-party bridge like @Orbiter_Finance and @StargateFinance!
While you want to use official bridges at least once as they usually give you bonus points, third-party bridges can give you points for multiple drops 👇
17/38
You can transfer from BASE to MANTA on Orbiter, giving you points on the coming Orbiter airdrop.
As well as points for the MANTA drop because you bridge to Manta and points for the potential BASE airdrop! Tripling your airdrop potential 👀
18/38
Now you've officially bridged funds to the new network you've earned airdrop points 🥳 Use a mix of official and third-party bridging for best results!
To earn more points you need to use a DEX on the network to do simple transactions like ETH to stable and back 👇
19/38
🟣 Finding a DEX 🟣
But again, you want to be sure you find a legit dex. This is how I do it:
Step 1: On @DefiLlama search for and click the network
Step 2: Scroll down to Protocol Rankings and choose a DEX
Step 3: On the DEX info page click "website"
20/38
🟣 Doing a Transaction 🟣
Let's swap ETH to USDT on Manta. I am using Aperture Swap but the process is similar on all DEXs!
Step 1: Connect your wallet, select Manta and add and switch network if prompted
Step 2: Fill in what you want to swap from and to and swap!
21/38
Generally speaking, when farming airdrops more small transactions are better than one big one. You should do small regular transactions a few times per week, make it a routine!
If there's a crypto you want on that network you can also buy it e.g. I'm buying $TIA on Manta.
22/38
Congrats on getting this far by the way. Bridging and doing transactions is the easiest and best way to farm airdrops.
This is usually how I build up most of my airdrop points! But there are a few more things you can do!
23/38
🟪 Stake, LP or Supply/Borrow 🟪
Staking and liquidity are important for a network to function so they are encouraged with airdrops. Adding liquidity can be complicated though so we are going to focus on something simple, supplying and borrowing with @LayerBankFi
24/38
Step 1: On LayerBank's site select Manta V2
Step 2: Scroll down to Market and select ETH or something else
Step 3: Under supply enter the ETH you want to lend and click supply and confirm in MM
25/38
Step 4: Select "supply", enter the amount you want to supply and confirm in MM!
Step 5: Once supplied you can switch to "borrow" and borrow the safe max
Lending and borrowing is not as scary as it sounds and it can boost your points. That being said, it's not necessary!
26/38
I went back and forth deciding whether to show liquidity provisioning or supply/borrow and landed on this because it's easier.
The longer you supply/borrow the more points you accrue! Not every airdrop you want to farm will be on LayerBank, some could be on @izumi_Finance
27/38
🟪 Governance 🟪
This is a simple one. A lot of projects will reward you for voting on proposals. Generally, you need to already hold the token to vote so this is mostly for second-round airdrops!
You usually see votes popping up on a project's social. Eg. from Arb
28/38
It takes only a few minutes to cast a vote and in a lot of cases, you earn airdrop points for your vote.
It differs from project to project so I can't show specific examples but it's very basic stuff.
No reason not to do this! Plus you're helping shape the project!!
29/38
🟪 Holding Tokens 🟪
Holders are often rewarded more than traders. If you farm an airdrop and you get tokens airdropped to you, you can sell to cash in your free money!!
Or you can hold because there might be a second round of airdrops for committed holders 👀
30/38
This one is totally up to you guys. I will be holding my LINEA and MANTA as I believe we are headed into the bull run and it doesn't make sense to sell.
These are both great projects and they might reward me with a bigger drop for holding. If you need the money, sell!
31/38
🟪 Referrals & Socials 🟪
There are referrals and socials. A lot of projects will reward you for sharing a referral link and following their socials or retweeting their tweets.
The implementation varies greatly but it's fairly straightforward.
32/38
You find out about referral-based drops on the project's socials. When you see XP or something like that it just means "airdrop points" 🤣
If they offer rewards for follows and retweets they will say so on their socials too. It's all about keeping an eye out 👀
33/38
Usually, they will drop a link where you connect your airdrop wallet to your Twitter profile. Then, you get rewards for following them, which you should already be doing and maybe retweeting their tweets.
You can see Manta's implementation below. Super simple!
34/38
🟪 Quests 🟪
Finally, a lot of projects are simplifying airdrop farming by doing quests. These quests layout in very specific detail the tasks you need to accomplish to earn airdrop points.
A recent example is Linea Voyage they did through @IntractCampaign
35/38
These campaigns are beginner-friendly. Here's a quick step-by-step guide.
Step 1: Visit the campaign website using a link from a trusted source and click on an active wave.
Step 2: Complete the core and bonus tasks. You can click each task for a more detailed breakdown.
36/38
🟪 What Next 🟪
This guide will get you 80% of the way with most airdrops. And for most of you, that is enough!
But if you want to go deep into airdrops and do more advanced stuff to maximise your airdrop potential I can do a guide on advanced strategies.
37/38
If you want the advanced strategies guide, or if you just like this thread and want to say thanks then:
1. Click the quoted tweet below!
2. Then give that tweet a like and a retweet!
Other than that, thanks so much for reading and I hope you get a five-figure airdrop!!
