Why Jarell Quansah (age 20) will be one of the world’s best Centrebacks in the future
A thread 🧵
1. Defensive intelligence.
Quansah has shown already that his young age does not affect his game making decisions and his ability to choose the best way to delay an attack, or go for a tackle. Look at the similarity between him and VVD defending here. Incredibly smart.
2. Defensive positioning
A problem you see from young defenders is being in the wrong spot at the wrong time. Whether that’s going for a tackle when they shouldn’t, being too passive, or not shifting with the ball, Quansah has shown he knows where to be, and when to be there.
3. Reps and Experience
It’s hard for younger players to get the chance on their senior teams. For Quansah this is not the case as he has been used for EFL matches, PL matches, and Europa league matches. This experience at such a high level of competition will prove very helpful.
4. Confidence/Mentality
Quansah although young, is already thinking of becoming a starter, proving his worth, and earning his spot on the first team. This answer was no disrespect to Matip, but rather, it was him showing he’s ready to earn his starting spot one day.
5. Learning from the best
You can tell in the way Quansah plays, he has been learning from Van Dijk. His tackling, heading, all of it, he looks like Van Dijk the way he plays. If he continues learning under him, he will reach great heights.
6. Strength and Composure
This clip shows the best of both of these. Not only is he physically strong to win the ball, he also does a great job dribbling with the ball and passing it inside the box to the open player. Not all CB’s at a young age are capable of this!
End of thread.
