A Mslm officer, Abdul Nabi, who was following Aurangzeb's policy of taxation, banned the celebration of the festival, rooting out idolatry. In 1661, he built Jama Masjid in the heart of the city of Mathura on the ruins of Hindu temples, and in 1666, he removed the wooden pavillion of Keshava Rai Temple.

In the battle, Veer Gokula klled Abdul Nabi, and the Jats of Tilpat plundered the pargana of Sadabad. The Mughal authorities asked Gokula to return the booty, but he refused it.
After prolonged warfare between the Mughal soldiers and Jats, Veer Gokula Jat and Uday Singh were captured and imprisoned.
Both of them were offered pardon if they accepted Isl* m. However, they refused this offer and were hacked to d3ath piece by piece at Agra Kotwali (outside the Gate of Fort) on January 1, 1670.

After the execution of Veer Gokula, Aurangzeb ordered the destruction of Keshav Rai and the building of the Id Gah Mosque over the same spot. Keshav Rai Temple was demolished in the month of Ramzan, 1080 A.H. (13 January–11 February 1670) by Aurangzeb’s order. He also changed the name of Mathura to Islamabad.
