This is a Short Answer to People who are asking About Why Kanchi mutt is Not in list of 4 Shankaracharya Peetham
👉 Adi Shankaracharya has written two texts related to operation of Peetha one is ‘Mathmanya Mahanushasanan’and the other one is ‘Mathmanya Setu’.
“Math(peetham) chatvarah , Acharya chatvarah”[there are 4 maths(peetham) and 4 Acharyas(one for each math)] is a verse of Adi Shankaracharya.
There are about 75 verses . Amongst the 4 math(peetham) the name of Sringeri is mentioned but Kanchi’s name in south is not mentioned .
👉 Why Adi Shankaracharya Never Mentions About 5th Peetham in above if he originally Established it ?
👉 The 4 Peetham represents 4 Vedas in 4 Directions Purvamnaya - Rigveda, Paschimamnaya - Samaveda, Dakshinamnaya- Yajurveda & Uttaramnaya - Atharvaveda
👉 If 5th Peetham Exist then for Which Direction & represents Which veda ? Is there any 5th Veda ?
👉 Again four Maths have their Mathamanayas in Sanskrit, whilst the Kanchi Math has no such Amnay.
👉 The Kumbakonam Mutt was established in 1821 by the Maratha king of Tanjore, Pratap Singh Tuljaji, as a branch of the Sringeri Mutt.
It became a separate institution when Tanjore and the Wodeyars of Mysore went to war against each other. It is on record that in 1839 the Kumbakonam Mutt applied for permission to the English Collector of Arcot to perform the "kumbhabhishekham" of the Kamakshi temple in Kanchipuram.
In 1842, the East India Company appointed the head of the mutt as the sole trustee of the Kamakshi temple. The protests of the traditional priests of the Kamakshi temple are well documented and preserved.
