Canada Migration and taking the IELTS Test.
Short Thread.
Like I always say, not everyone should, have to, or need to go to Canada. But if you want and have to, then act fast, take the necessary steps and do it the legal way.
P.S: The more you wait, the more points you lose if you are going the Express Entry pathway.
So if you are planning to, it’s a good move and just like every worthwhile endeavor, there are some processes and requirements (IELTS inclusive) that you need to plan for.
Canada Express Entry:
STEP 1: Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)
First things first, you need to evaluate your degree(s) i.e. converting University degree/MSc/College Degree to the Canadian Equivalent.
You can start the process by following this link: wes.org
-Click on new applicants/get started
-Click on Apply Now
-Choose Canada for where you need your evaluation to be addressed
-Click on ECA application for IRCC, create an account, & follow the prompt.
-You will be issued a reference number that will be used to track your request.
Step 2: Write Language Proficiency Test (English or French or Both)
You should write the 'General Language Exam'. You do not have to wait till you are done with WES before proceeding to this stage, it can be done concurrently.
But I usually advise you should have at least started with WES before proceeding with a Language Proficiency Test.
Generally, the desired score for Express Entry, Federal Skilled Worker is 7778 & the Modules are as follows:
Speaking-7
Reading-7
Writing-7, &
Listening-8
Here are the IRCC Language Proficiency Exams and requirements: canada.ca
If you decide to write IELTS General, apart from the free resources try one of these platforms.
Google these:
1. GlobalExam
2. IELTS Simon
3. IELTS Advantage
4. ielts-exam. net
5. IELTS Tutorials
6. IELTS Mentor
7. IELTS Liz
8. IELTS Buddy
9. Road to IELTS
10. IELTS up
Step 3:
Once Steps 1 & 2 are completed, then you are ready to create a profile on IRCC website to enter the EE pool of candidates.
Usually, when a draw is done, the highest-ranking candidates are selected for the Federal Skilled Workers pathway.
The Category Based pathway has also been a great pathway for folks with lower CRS scores.
The score you would need on an average is between 484 - 525. If your score falls between this category, you have a good shot at landing an ITA when a draw is done with that range of score.
If lower, then you should be exploring the Provincial Nomination Programs, but better to be ready and in the pool regardless.
You can check your score here: ircc.canada.ca
Fill in a tentative Language score (for example IELTS as 7778 as shown in “Step 2” for score projections).
P.S: Masters/MBA/Ph.D. would boost your score. So, in the case of a couple, the person with a higher degree can be the primary applicant.
You can also check how PNP works and what provinces in Canada are involved in the Provincial Nomination programs here: canada.ca
Getting a nomination from a province in Canada adds 600 to your score.
The 🇨🇦 immigration process is a DIY process. However, if you need an RCIC (Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant) who is here in Canada to speak to, assess, guide & represent you by applying on your behalf, please reach out & follow @TravoolyHQ or via link on my bio.
All the best!
