at this point i think saying israel is trying to drag the usa into war in lebanon is cause/effect confusion. maybe that was true in november and early december, but israel does what it’s told, which means that it’s now the usa that wants the lebanon war
israel’s internal dynamics re war on lebanon have always been the same: it’s politically advantageous for the current leadership, militarily and economically impractical, will not restore deterrence, but will provide a veneer granting the diplomatic status quo a few more years
they have no reason not to do it other than the likely military losses. the usa on the other hand: another middle eastern war would hurt and there’s no good reason to start one unless they’re losing elsewhere and very clearly seen to be losing. we are now at that point
the thing is that people hate change. politicians most of all. relationships w israel are based on its military strength, but as long it’s racking up a body count somewhere, diplomats can say, we can’t yet *prove* israel’s military is ineffective so no reason to change anything
the resistance is still fighting? that doesn’t mean we should stop ordering all those guns from IMI or whatever, it’s just bc they’re irrational actors that can’t be reasoned with! IDF losing to 3,000 hamas irregulars? that’s actually iran, russia and north korea they’re fighting

like 95% of what the remaining soldiers in gaza are doing is west bank border police duties: manning checkpoints, abducting and torturing civilians, shooting anyone who “makes them feel unsafe”, killing each other. no surprise the Kfir Brigade has taken over from the Golani lol
